Finding childcare that works for your schedule is not easy. For many parents, especially those working late nights, weekends, or unpredictable hours, traditional childcare just doesn’t cut it. Carolyn knows this firsthand, and that is why she started Agyapa Care.

The name ‘Agyapa’ comes from the Twi language, which originates from Ghana and means ‘good father’. That meaning runs deep in everything Agyapa Care does. They create a space where families feel supported and kids are cared for in a way that makes them feel seen and loved.

A Journey Rooted in Care

Carolyn’s path to childcare started early. At 16, still in high school, she worked with individuals living with disabilities. Her mother was a caregiver. Watching her work showed Carolyn just how much of a difference care and support can make in a person’s life.

She described it as “a love for the people” and carried that lesson with her, working with people of all ages in different roles. That love eventually led her to create Agyapa Care, a service built for families who need something beyond the usual nine-to-five childcare model.

Childcare That Works for Real Life

Agyapa Care offers Extended Hours Care, including overnight, after-school, weekend, and respite care. It is designed for parents who do not have the luxury of a predictable work schedule. Carolyn understands that life does not always fit into neat time slots, so she built a childcare service that meets families where they are: flexible, on-demand, high-quality care.

Childcare quality varies drastically depending on the attitude and approach of the caregiver. Carolyn emphasises a child-led approach, whether that is exploring senses through messy investigative play or releasing tensions and co-regulating with fun dance parties. She describes an occasion that anyone familiar with children will recognise.

One day, a child was reaching a breaking point, and a crisis was imminent. Carolyn broke out the sound system, everybody got to bust a move and crack a smile, and the tension in the room dissipated.

“I was successful in creating smiles and laughs instead of tears.”

More Than Just Childcare

Carolyn finds big moments of joy in what she does; she thrives on the love she receives in return for the love she shows those under her care. She takes inspiration from the joy she creates and from learning new things every day.

Agyapa Care offers a culturally pluralistic environment to children of all walks of life, serving the needs of communities often neglected. She was empowered to do this through the BIPOC Foundation LIFT program. The LIFT program encouraged her to revisit and refine her business plan, preparing her for success. A program she continues to recommend to her peers.
